Farewell and Congratulations to Miss Marshall

We are sad to see Miss Marshall leave us.  She was with our class full-time from January 10-April 19, 2013, as an Intern from the University of North Florida.  On Friday, April 19th, we celebrated the completion of her Internship and COLLEGE GRADUATION with cards, gifts, cake, and juice.  Thank you to all the families who helped their children give cards and gifts to Miss Marshall.

Planting Bean Seeds

As a part of our Science unit on Plant Life, our students planted bean seeds.  We will observe and record their growth over the next few weeks.

Eric Carle's Art

During our three-week Author Study on Eric Carle, we have talked a great deal about the type of art he creates for his books.  Over a period of three days, we tried to paint in his style.  Students first painted their paper one solid color, then in the subsequent days, they painted other colors on top, just as Mr. Carle does.

You can see photos and video of Mr. Carle painting at http://www.eric-carle.com/.

Functional Writing: PB&J

On April 17th, we made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, as a part of our unit on Functional Writing.  Students were asked to pay attention to the steps they took to make the sandwiches.  The next day, students wrote steps, which may have been something like:
1) Get two pieces of bread,
2) Put peanut butter on one piece of bread and jelly on the other piece,
3) Put the two slices of bread together to make the sandwich, and
4) Eat the sandwich!

Some children took their sandwiches home to finish eating them.

Our Performance: ZooZical

On Tuesday, April 16, 2013, our class performed on stage with five other kindergarten classes.  We sang in a program entitled, "ZooZical", written by our Music Teacher, Ms. Michelle Taylor.  Our class also played handbells.  We hope you were able to see the show.  It was WONDERFUL !!

Thank you to Mrs. Halliger, our Wednesday volunteer, for the gift of bow ties for the boys and hairbows for the girls.  What a generous gift!  The children looked so great !!
