Ten Frames

In Math, we are working with "Ten Frames".  We use them to practice counting and cardinality.  Later on, we will use "Double Ten Frames".  Please notice that our counters are the green bottle caps from bottled water.  They are free!

i-Ready Diagnostic Tests

On Monday and Tuesday, September 22-23, our students took the i-Ready Math and Reading Diagnostic Tests.  These tests determine at which lesson each student will start, as he/she moves through the i-Ready curriculum.

Working in our Outdoor Learning Area

While learning about "The Practice of Science", our kindergartners went outside to our Outdoor Learning Area to practice observing things.  They have learned that scientists use their senses, scientists observe things, and scientists draw what they observe.  On the day pictures, students were asked to choose one object (such as a tree), then observe and draw three things about that object (the tree has a black trunk, green leaves, and is tall).

Reading: Retelling

One of the comprehension skills we will work on all year is retelling familiar stories.  One of the ways we practice this in our class is by using sequencing pictures.  Our students have heard the story of "The Three Little Pigs" many times.  After yet another reading, students worked in pairs to practice retelling the story using six sequencing pictures.

Math: Sorting

In Mathematics, our students have been sorting things by shape, color, and function.  Here are some photos of some of the things they sorted.
