Functional (Procedural) Writing
Students in our class made their own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in preparation for a Functional Writing assignment. After making (and eating) their sandwiches, children identified the steps they used to make their sandwiches. The next day, they wrote their directions for how to make a sandwich and drew illustrations to match.
Our Jack-o-Lantern
A few days before Halloween our class carved a pumpkin. Students had an opportunity to pull the "guts" out of the pumpkin and separate the seeds from the "guts". Students helped choose the shape for the eyes and nose, as well as the number of teeth he had. We also toasted the seeds (Yes, Mrs. Doiron brought her toaster oven to school.) and enjoyed eating them. We all agreed that they taste like popcorn.
Can you guess why we named our Jack-o-Lantern "Scar"?
Nonfiction Elements
During the month of October, our student learned the Elements of Nonfiction, such as Table of Contents, Index, Photographs, Labels, Diagrams, Maps, Bold Words and Highlighted Words. These photos show our students finding these Nonfiction Elements in books and showing them to Mrs. Tremble, our FSCJ Intern.

Connor's A-Maize-Ing Acres
Lunch and Playground
(Mrs. Doiron decided not to post photos of the children who fell asleep on the bus going back to school!)
Thank you so very much to the five parents who came along on this field trip as chaperones!
Connor's A-Maize-Ing Acres
We thought we might get lost in the Corn Maze, but we followed the twists and turns, and found out way out eventually.
What a fun adventure this was!
