Safety in the Sun
Even though it's the last week of school, our students are still learning new things. On Monday, June 3rd, FSCJ student, Mrs. Ayers, taught the students about how to stay safe in the sun. She showed them real objects, such as a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, shirt, umbrella, and bottle of water. They learned that all of us, regardless of our skin color, need to wear sunscreen in the sun. We should have shade, such as trees or an umbrella or tent, that we can get under if we get too hot. We need to drink water or Gatorade in order that we don't get dehydrated. We should wear hats and sunglasses (and maybe a shirt over our swimsuit) to protect our eyes and skin from the strong rays of the sun. Thank you, Mrs. Ayers.
Students took turns placing the things that help keep us safe from the sun on the board.
"You need a hat and you need glasses."
"Wear a shirt. Wear a hat. Wear sunscreen. Wear sunglasses."
"No sun because it will give you a sunburn. Go to the beach and the pool and the YMCA with sunscreen, and the sun will get you dehydrated."
Readers' Theater
Following our Awards Assembly on Monday, June 3rd, our students performed Readers' Theater for those family members who were able to attend.
First, they performed "The Bremen Town Musicians", a German folk tale.
Then, they performed "The Three Billy Goats Gruff", a Norwegian folk tale. Students did a wonderful job of changing their voices for the different characters. The troll and the big billy goat had very LOUD voices, whereas the little goat had quite a small voice.
AWARDS ASSEMBLY
On Monday, June 3, 2013, we held our Annual East Ranch Kindergarten Awards Assembly. Every student earned an award. We are so proud of our students !!
Some of the awards given out were Perfect Attendance for the Year, "E" Honor Roll for the Year, "E/S+" Honor Roll for the Year, and Outstanding Conduct for the Year.
The trophies were awarded by our PTA for those students who completed at least 80% of their Sunshine Math supplemental worksheets. This is a PTA sponsored program, run completely by our parent volunteers. Thank you to Michelle McDaniel, who was our Sunshine Math Coordinator!
