2012-2013 SCHOOL SUPPLIES

PLEASE NOTE:
Since each teacher's wants and needs are different,
please read the notes in red.
Thank you so much for your help!

1 backpack WITHOUT wheels
(Backpacks with wheels do not fit into our cubbies, plus it is often dangerous to other students when they are dragged down the hallway.  Our students do not carry things that are heavy enough to need wheels!)
1 blue plastic folder with prongs.
(Mrs. Doiron's students DO NOT need the blue folder.)
5 boxes - 16 skinny Crayola crayons
(3 or 4 boxes of crayons are enough.)
1 box (20) #2 skinny pencils
12 glue sticks
1 box - Ziplock gallon bags (boys)
1 box - Ziplock sandwich bags (girls)
1 bottle waterless hand sanitizer (at least 7 oz.)
2 bottles antibacterial soap (at least 7 oz.)
(Mrs. Doiron's students only need to bring 1 bottle of antibacterial soap.)
2 reams white copy paper
(Mrs. Doiron's students only need to bring 1 ream of paper.)
4 black dry erase markers
1 package baby wipes (boys) * (Please read the note below.)
1 container antibacterial cleaning wipes (girls)
1 Mead PRIMARY journal book
(Be certain that you get the "Primary" journal.
It has a blank space at the top of each page for a drawing.)

ONE MORE THING:
Please send in a box of 200 tissues.
When winter and cold season comes, we will go through lots of these!

* Mrs. Doiron's class uses quite a few baby wipes, since each student gets one to clean his/her hands after recess / before lunch.  It would be great if the girls would bring baby wipes instead of the antibacterial cleaning wipes.  Thank you.

I just have to brag ...

Our daughter, Leslie, just won an Emmy Award for her work
in production at The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
(Williamsburg, Virginia).  She looks pretty excited and happy,
doesn't she?  By the way, this is the exact same statue that
actors and directors win in Hollywood.
Mr. Doiron and I are so proud !!

The last day of school

What did students in Mrs. Doiron's kindergarten class do on the last day
of school?  They started the day with Journal Writing, just as they always do.  After the "Flag Raising" in the cafeteria, we had Reader's Workshop,
where students listened to one of Mrs. Doiron's favorite books,
How Are You Peeling? by Saxton Freymann and Joost Elffers.
Students had a short Independent Reading, when they were able to select their favorite book from the Book Center.  Then the children went to
Literacy Centers, just like they always do.  After an early lunch/snack
in the classroom, students went home early.

Last Day of School "Flag Raising"

Due to a rain storm, Merrill Road Elementary School's Last Day of School "Flag Raising" was held in the cafeteria.  Members of the Disabled Veterans of America presented the flag.  Mrs. Gray (principal) and Ms. Bartley (assistant principal) drew names for two bicycles to be given away.  Students who had "Perfect, Perfect Attendance" (never missed a day of school, never were tardy, and never left school early) had their names placed in a hat.  A first grade girl won the girl's bike and a kindergarten boy won the boy's bike.  Bicycles were donated by one of our business partners.

END-OF-THE-YEAR PARTY AT THE BEACH

On Wednesday, June 6, 2012, our twelve kindergarten classes went to the beach at Hanna Park.  Our class started out at the Lake Side of Hanna Park.  We had a cookout with hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, fresh fruit, raw vegetables, chips, drink boxes, cookies and watermelon!  Thank you to Mr. Doiron, Mr. Fleetwood, and Mr. Parfitt (husbands of kindergarten teachers)
for grilling the hot dogs.  They sure were yummy !!

After lunch, the bus driver took us over the the Beach Side of
Hanna Park.  Students enjoyed playing in the sand and hunting for shells.  We also had a nice walk on the beach.

Thank you to Ms. Bestul, Ms. Gonzalez, Ms. Hill, Ms. King,
Ms. McGarva, Ms. Mitrosky, Mr. Oats, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Watson,
for serving as chaperones on this wonderful day !!
