During the week of September 30 - October 4,
our students learned about Problems and Solutions. During Reading, Mrs. Doiron read aloud three books
by Kevin Henkes - Owen, Chrysanthemum, and Wemberly Worried. These stories had obvious Problems and Solutions. For example, in Owen, the problem was that Owen wouldn't give up his blankie and in fact, he wanted to take it to school!
His mother's solution was to cut and sew the blanket into many little handkerchiefs.

On Thurday, October 3rd, our students reviewed some of the STAR Books they have heard during the school year: Goldilocks and the Three Bears by James Marshall, Corduroy by Don Freeman, The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Ellen Appleby, and Bedtime for Frances by Russell Hoban. Each student was given a book and was told to review the book and determine what was the Problem and Solution. Then they got into Book Groups. The students who had the same book sat together and discussed the Problem and Solution in their book. It is just great to see our young students understand the elements of the stories we read!
Mrs. Doiron is so proud of her young scholars!
