On Halloween, we carved a pumpkin. Mrs. Doiron wielded the knife, and the students pulled the "guts" and seeds out of the pumpkin, and separated them. Later, Mrs. Doiron washed the seeds, salted them, and toasted them in a toaster oven. Yummy !!

Shape Pictures
Our Common Core State Standards for Geometry in Kindergarten state:
1. Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes
2. Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size
3. Identify shapes as two-dimensional or three-dimensional
4. Analyze and compare two and three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts, and other attributes.
5. Model shapes in the world by building shapes from components and drawing shapes
6. Compose simble shapes to form larger shapes.
Children used shapes to recreate a picture, then traced around the shapes to make their own shape picture of a barn and silo.
Children used shapes to recreate a picture of a rocket, then traced around the shapes to make their own shape pictures. Do you notice that none of these rockets are the same? Our students are learning that there are many correct answers to a problem.
Children used shapes to recreate a picture of a fish, then traced around the shapes to make their own shape picture. Isn't Math fun?
Playground Fun
Each day from 10:30-11:00 our class has recess on the playground. After that, we come into the classroom, clean our hands, and go straight to lunch.

The Gingerbread Man
Our STAR Book for the week of October 15-19, 2012
was The Gingerbread Man by Karen Schmidt.
This book was read to the class every day during the week.
Students enjoyed reciting this refrain,
"Run, run, as fast as you can.
You can't catch me. I'm the Gingerbread Man!"
On Thursday night, Mrs. Doiron baked gingerbread men.
On Friday, each student received a gingerbread man,
frosting and mini m&ms for decoration.
It was fun to frost and decorate The Gingerbread Man.
(Okay, some of us did nibble on the m&ms!)
The finished product!
Mmm, they were yummy!
Your child can watch this story again at

and our students loved it! There was lots of clapping and toe-tapping,
and the children liked it, too! (Ha ha)
