Functional (Procedural) Writing

Students in our class made their own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in preparation for a Functional Writing assignment.  After making (and eating) their sandwiches, children identified the steps they used to make their sandwiches.  The next day, they wrote their directions for how to make a sandwich and drew illustrations to match.
